Marrakech-Dades-Zagora-Chegaga-Ait Ben Haddou-Marrakech
First day Your journey begins early from Marrakech, heading toward the High Atlas Mountains through traditional Berber villages. After a scenic coffee break overlooking the valleys before Tizi n’Tichka, the road climbs to the famous mountain pass at 2,260m, where you stop for panoramic photos of the Atlas peaks.
You then continue south to visit the Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, followed by lunch in the city known as the “Gate of the Desert.” In the afternoon, the road takes you along the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs and through the fragrant Rose Valley before reaching the dramatic landscapes of Dades. There, near the unique “Monkey Fingers” formations, you check into your accommodation for dinner and your first night in the mountains.
Leaving Dades in the morning, you continue through dramatic desert scenery toward N‘Kob for lunch. You can choose between two scenic routes: follow the Todra Gorge valley and climb the dramatic Tizi n’Tazazert pass before continuing toward Zagora, or head directly into the Anti-Atlas, crossing Tizi n’Tazazert and descending toward N‘Kob. In the afternoon you visit the historic Kasbah Tamnougalt in the Draa Valley, then continue to Zagora for dinner and overnight.
Departing Zagora in the morning, the road leads through palm-filled valleys toward Tamegroute, known for its traditional pottery and its historic underground Koranic library. After the visit, you continue deeper into the Sahara toward M’Hamid and then cross remote desert tracks to reach the stunning dunes of Erg Chegaga, where your desert adventure continues.
After breakfast at Erg Chegaga, you travel across the wild Sahara passing Lake Iriki and the fossil fields, with a stop to meet local nomads along the way. The track continues to Foum Zguid, where the paved road begins again, then heads toward Taznakht, famous for traditional Berber carpets. In the afternoon, you reach the UNESCO site of Ait Ben Haddou for a visit before continuing your journey.
Leaving Ait Ben Haddou in the morning, the road leads to the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the palace of the Glaoui family. From here, you follow the beautiful Ounila Valley, passing traditional Berber villages and dramatic landscapes. In the afternoon, you return across the High Atlas and arrive in Marrakech, where the tour ends.
